Minera Goldfields implemented an innovative strategy to optimize the management of the organic waste generated in its mining operations. The company sought to reduce its environmental impact and improve the efficiency of its processes through an automated composting system that would turn waste into useful resources.
Before adopting this technology, the waste was constantly hauled to authorized sanitary landfills by an external service. This procedure involved high operating costs, as well as significant emissions related to transporting the materials.
As environmental requirements grew within the mining sector, the company decided to commit to sustainable solutions capable of delivering economic and environmental benefits at the same time. The main goal was to reduce the amount of waste sent off the operation.
To achieve this goal, Goldfields implemented the ECOBOT PLUS system, a technological solution designed to accelerate the treatment of organic waste efficiently, safely and with minimal manual intervention in daily activities.
The system makes it possible to process large volumes of organic matter within the mine facilities, avoiding unnecessary accumulation and improving environmental management conditions across different work areas.
Automated composting in sustainable mining

One of the main benefits of this implementation was a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. By cutting the transport of waste to sanitary landfills, the operation’s environmental footprint was also considerably reduced.
In addition, the automated composting process produces high-quality compost that can be used in revegetation projects, soil recovery and sustainable agricultural activities in communities near the mine.
Lower operating costs were also an important result for the company. By eliminating much of the expense associated with the transport and external disposal of waste, the mining company was able to free up resources for future environmental investments.
Another relevant aspect was the positive impact on the organizational culture. The project drove training and awareness activities for workers and collaborators on the importance of responsible organic waste management.
This case shows how automated composting can become a strategic solution to drive more efficient, sustainable mining aligned with the sector’s new environmental requirements in Peru and Latin America.
